They pressed into a church hoping to hide from the pursuing terror.  But the pursuers set the church ablaze, burning 46 people to death inside.

In the past few days hell has broken out in Kenya.  300 people have died in fighting between tribal groups disputing the outcome of the presidential election.  The reelected president belongs to the Kikuyu tribe.  Kikuyus are happy at his announced victory.  The Luo tribe and others believe the election was rigged.  They are hunting down Kikuyus and vice versa.

The elders in one village met and decided that the houses of all Kikuyus in the village would be burned.  One of our Christian families feared for their own home located next to that of a Kikuyu family.  Elsewhere, police reportedly came to the house of a church elder and shot his daughter.  People are afraid to assemble for worship.  This week has reminded us of the curse of our fallen nature.

It has also shown that the gospel of Christ is the only antidote.  In many churches Kikuyus and other tribes had worshiped side by side.  One church leader emailed the story of non-Kikuyu Christians who escorted their Kikuyu brothers and sisters into the safety of a forest, all the time afraid that they themselves might be killed for sheltering Kikuyus.  The email correspondent commented that times like this prove who the true believers are.

Please pray for the peace of Christ in Kenya.
